The Woodfords Community is located in the Woodfords/Markleeville area, which is part of Alpine County, California and is historically known as the Southern band of the Washoe Tribe. It is governed by a five member Community Council that operates on its Articles of Association and By-Laws. Two of its members represent the Hung-A-Lel-Ti Community on the main, twelve member Washoe Tribal Council. Hung-A-Lel-Ti community members have access to various social, educational, recreational, and cultural programs and has partnered with the Alpine County Behavioral Health Services to provide behavioral and mental health programs to its residents.

The Woodfords Indian Education Center (WIEC), established in 1989 with funding from the California Department of Education and is governed by the Woodfords Community Council, serves the Hung-A-Lel-Ti Community and Alpine county K-12th grade Native students, and their families, by providing educational and academic resources and support. The Hung-A-Lel-Ti Wellness Center and Gym offers Washoe language and cultural classes, recreational activities, and Community events. The Washoe Native TANF Program Alpine site provides temporary aid and services to WNTP Native American families with children that are at risk of welfare dependency. The program focuses on providing services that strengthen families, prepare workers for jobs and encourage participants to achieve self-sufficiency. Services include career development services, education and employment services, youth program services, achievement incentives, and support services.
